Hervé and our café

It would be easy to continue blogging about not being able to blog as efficiently as I think I used to. However, I’ve decided to ignore the frustrations of technology and assume I’ll get the hang of it all again soon. So, here I am, still in Caunes, after making the decision to split our lives between Yorkshire and this beautiful part of the south of France. That was 13 years ago, and just a year before my cancer diagnosis. A close friend , also a cancer survivor, and I have a phrase we repeat regularly , “ We’re still here”.  We are still here, and are still trying to value every moment, whether it is when I am here in Caunes or back with family in Yorkshire.. Caunes is still a lovely place to be. I suppose it has changed a little in the 13 years we’ve been here.  The village bar changed hands a couple of years ago. Some people couldn’t take to the new owners, the menu changed, hours of opening were slightly different, but in general it has kept its friendly ambience, having ...

Deciding to blog again comes with problems. All sorts of things I took for granted 6 years ago, when I blogged regularly, have changed. I suspect the biggest change is actually in me . The technology seems to have advanced beyond my capabilities. However, I’m hoping that eventually I’ll get back to the point of being able to post, to comment on others posts and list my favourites on my page so others can enjoy what I enjoy. One of my dearest friends died in March 2020, no one called it covid then, but as she died in a care home, just days before we all locked down, it is very likely she was one of  the first deaths.  I’ve lost a few other dear friends since then. My wonderful brother in law, my boyfriend from my time in America, two other much missed male friends…and one of the most beautiful and talented educators and local politicians it was poss...

Back in Caunes

Years ago I blogged. It helped make friends all over the world. Most of us stopped blogging a while ago, and have recently thought it might be an idea to start up again. We kept in touch through Facebook and continued to enjoy reading one particular blog from Costa Rica, which made some of us feel guilty we hadn’t kept it up .  Anyway, I’ve decided to have another go. My previous blog was “ Janice in Caunes”. A few things have changed since my last post…. Brexit for one, and of course, Covid. This time, I’m calling my blog “ Back in Caunes”. Despite it all, I still spend half my life here, and I still love it. Life has changed, more grandchildren, grandchildren getting older, some sad times, some happy times and some interesting times. So, I’m back….. with no idea whether I can remember how to do this. Wish me luck.
